Things were looking good for Sega. In May of 1995, the Saturn shipped in the US for a price of $349 ($399 with Virtua Fighter as a pack-in). Again, Sega rushed through thing trying to beat the competition to the punch in the 32-bit market. It would end up being one of Sega's greatest follies.

The problem was, Sega did little to market the system . . . where were the ingenious little ads like the ones we saw for the Genesis? And the memory of the Sega CD and 32X were still etched in gamers minds. And the publisher's minds. Many people jumped ship and started producing for Sony. By the holiday season, Sony had a lot more quality games than the Saturn (despite a smaller release time). This is what ultimately lead to the Saturn's quick demise.

As the smoke cleared from the holidays, Sony emerged on top. More and more publishers flocked to Sony, and with them, their fans. However, that did little to prevent some high quality games from being released, like NiGHTS - Into Dreams, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Virtual On, and Magic Knight Rayearth, to name a few.

Despite it's quick demise and small library, the Saturn is a great system, definitely the "sleeper hit" of its generation of consoles. Why else would people even today buy it for just a handful of games? Any way, please enjoy the music.
