Background
Originally a nixed add-on to the Super Nes (what was Nintendo thinking ;), the playstation is a CD-based system that has dominated the Video Game Industry for some time now. The Playstation burst into the Video Game Industry after months of hype on September 6, 1995. It had a speedy 33 mhz processor (as far as consoles at the time went), and was among the first systems to support true full-motion video and CD-quality sound. At first, the daunting $300 price tag kept the gamers away, who opted for the slightly-cheaper Saturn. However, by 1996, sales were climbing and climbing. Many publishers jumped ship from Sega and Nintendo to flock to Sony, which in turn forced many consumers to switch over to Sony to play the games these publishers produced. Since 1996, Playstation has become one of the greatest Video Game successes of all time, rivaling even that of the Nintendo's Nes (without sneaky business tactics, to boot).
