Welcome to Gamesounds!
Just take me to the news!

Mission Statement

This is a site dedicated to bringing you music from your favorite console videogames (the Nes, Snes, Psx, etc.). So, If that's what you're looking for, you've come to the right place. The files are in a variety of formats, but mostly MIDI, because the file size is small, and they are well-supported by most systems. You can feel free to donate any music file we support which we do not have yet by using our Upload script. We also have a Message Board to converse with eachother as well as a Poll to voice your opinions on various topics.

The current Leader is:
Never been here before, but I like it! - 57.93%

Make it Go

I made this site with 'high-end' browsers in mind, so keep in mind that getting around here will require your web browser to support Javascript, stylesheets, and images. A good resolution (800x600 or better) and 16-bit color will help, too. Don't worry if none of that made sense. If you're reading this, then your browser supports all that stuff =]. And for anyone who's wondering, the only browser that runs this site flawlessly is Internet Explorer 5. Shame on you Netscape.

You can get around the various by the table of contents at the top of the page, or go back here by clicking the 'home' link in the left frame. Select a video game system from the Table of Contents, and you'll be given a choice of available file formats for that system, and from there you can browse individual files.

If you're not viewing this site in frames (or worse, in someone else's frame), click here to load the frameset.

Bad News Posted by (wraith) (09:48:59 EST)
Unfortunately, Gamesounds is probably going to be closing towards the end of the month or the beginning of next month. For starters, I no longer can afford the ISP bill ( I'm just a poor college student :( ). Secondly, I'm strapped for time because of school and because of work, and I'd rather spen the time I have persuing some other interests. These Including a romhack/translation project that's been going on for a little while now; and http://donut.parodius.com, another side project of mine and a friend -- oh yeah, and real life, too =P. Can't forget about that. Anyways, I was juggling a lot of stuff, and this ended up being the thing that got dropped.

But, it was fun while it lasted. I would like to thank Spinner 8 for always having something positive to say, and for being an all-around cool person. Also thanks go out to Mr. About and kalevan, for being my sites first, and staunchest, fans. I would like to thank MBudai ( good luck with Blue Ember Productions ), Rie Lenka ( Great tracks and sequences; those games definitely needed attention ;) ), and all the sequencers who were kind enough to return my annoying emails a few months ago and give me permission to archive their stuff. Really, around of applause for them =]. Anyone else I missed, sorry. I'll try harder to remember you next time =]. Anyway, if you're into emulation or romhacking, I'm sure you'll see me around. If not .. it's been real.

Oh My God! A Poll Update!?!?!? Posted by (wraith) (17:05:53 EST)
Yep, I changed the poll =]. Here's the results of the first poll, "Which game series has the best music?"
  • Response 1 - Castlevania recieved 22 votes (17.19%)
  • Response 2 - Dragon Quest received 11 votes (8.59%)
  • Response 3 - Final Fantasy received 46 votes (35.94%)
  • Response 4 - Lunar received 3 votes (2.34%)
  • Response 5 - Megaman received 17 votes (13.29%)
  • Response 6 - Ninja Gaiden received 2 votes (1.56%)
  • Response 7 - Phantasy Star received 9 votes (7.03%)
  • Response 8 - Seiken Densetsu received 7 votes (5.47%)
  • Response 9 - Street Fighter received 4 votes (3.13%)
  • Response 10 - Super Mario Bros. received 7 votes (5.47%)
So, I guess even when you throw 9 other games with excellent scores against it, Final Fantasy still dominates (I was really rooting for Phantsy Star =[). Anyway, the new poll "How do you like the new layout?" can be viewed here.

If you would like to write a review of any game you see on this site, please feel free to do so (it doesn't have to be in HTML, if you send me plain text, I'll HTML-ize for you). So, if you're interested, send any reiview you want to write to reviews@gamesounds.icestorm.com. Thanks, and here's the new music:

Slight Layout Change and a Big-Arse Announcement Posted by (wraith) (00:18:02 EST)
Hey, (wraith) here.

I would just like to let all the visitors who didn't notice yet that there was a slight layout change. Now, going to the midi section for a system will bring up all the games we have midis for, listing only titles of the games. Clicking on the title of a game will take you to a page with all the songs we have for it. This should hopefully cut down on load times for those you (like me) who are still stuck on dial-up, and create less 'fluff' to wade through when you're looking for something in particular. And that brings us on to Big Arse Announcement One . . .

Big Arse Announcement (In stereo where available) - With each game having it's own individual page, we now are open to the option of reviews and game synopsises (bah, stupid grammar), and more. I will now be accepting reviews of games, synopsises (this would entail writing about what goes on in the game i.e. - something like what is usualy printed on the back of the game's box and/or a little history about the game) and screenshots for any games listed anywhere in the Gamesounds Midi sections. My only guidelines are:
  • All written material be free of spelling and grammatical errors.
  • No more than two reviews for a game: one pro and one con. (So writing a review for a game that already has a pro and con review will likely be in vain)
  • Only one synopsis per game. (So writing a synopsis for a game that already has one will likely be in vain)
  • You must supply with a name and email address
  • I reserve the right to decline any review, synopsis or screenshot. Period =]
So, if you've been itching to write about any game we feature here, now's your chance send those reviews and screen shots to reviews@gamesounds.icestorm.com.
